I like to call Eilat this way, because together with domestic tourists there’s a whole bunch of the Russian ones. You can hear Russian everywhere, people start the conversation with you using this language, hence the feeling of sort of being ‘abroad’ abroad;)
We started our trip from Jerusalem and most of our route was on the road no 40. It led us straight to the Red Sea – or better yet – Gulf of Aquaba. Aquaba is Eilat’s neighboring city in Jordan – we went there some other time; the post on this journey will be available soon:)
The road from Jerusalem to Eilat took us a bit over 4 hours, but we made a couple of pit stops. One of them was Mitzpe Ramon – this time just for a quick look. I’ve just prepared a post about our longer stay there – you can learn more about it HERE. Below just a quick sneak peek of the Maktesh:
Eilat is pretty much a full-blown resort where you can spend your time ‘all inclusive’ style – lying at the pool or getting tan at the beach. If you like it that is.

If you don’t…. there’s other things to enjoy – below you’ll find what else we did and what I think is worthwhile.
What to do in Eilat ?
Diving in the Red Sea – if your’e one of those people – you’ll LOVE diving right next to our blue brothers – the dolphins at The Dolphin’s Reef.
You can meet here – and I really mean MEET here – one of the most intelligent creatures on Earth – and those are the bottlenose dolphins. And it might be a face to nose meeting too:) If you’re not the first one to jump to water you can still get the experience of meeting those guys when you attend the feeding sessions.
FISHES
If you enjoyed Finding Nemo – or if your kids did – then you most likely will go crazy looking at all the exotic fishes. There’s over 800 species to see, and the 360 degrees panorama of marine wildlife will help you do that →Underwater Observatory
If you want more – there’s also a glass ship “Coral” – waiting to take you to the sea and help you experience being a part of the tribe.
THE TIMNA PARK
Situated some 25 km North of Eilat – its cosmic scenery will leave you speechless!
This one’s for you if you’re a serious hiker or a climber, a camper or a biker or… Wait. You really can do so much stuff there! Timna is one of the largest parks in the world. And it’s so beautiful too. Our kids were amazed – they would hike, climb, observe the wildlife and the night sky – it’s like a play station for all ages – and with the nature 😉
WHAT ELSE
You can also enjoy simple strolls – and while you’re at you’ll be amazed by views like these:
